Trip fee policy
Updated October 7, 2026
The total cost of a trip on Rentalo is made up of several items that provide safety and coverage throughout the experience.
What does the trip fee include?
The trip fee is a charge on top of the vehicle rental price, and it is paid by the driver. It covers:
- Credit card processing charges.
- The cost of insurance during the rental.
- Operations management and support during the trip.
The fee varies by vehicle type and is shown clearly before you complete the booking.
Security deposit
- Every trip has a security deposit starting at USD $200, which may vary with the value of the vehicle.
- This deposit is currently charged in full (not pre-authorized) to the driver's card when the booking is made.
What happens to that amount?
- Of the $200 charged, $190 is returned at the end of the trip if there were no incidents.
- The $10 withheld is a 2.5% fee that the payment platform charges to process the refund. This amount is non-refundable.
Refund time
Once the trip has ended and the vehicle's condition has been checked, the deposit refund can take 5 to 10 business days to appear on the card used, depending on the driver's bank.
