Recovery fee policy for returns at an unauthorized location

Updated October 7, 2026

On Rentalo, the vehicle must be returned only at the place and time previously agreed between the driver and the owner, or as indicated on the platform.

When a driver leaves the vehicle at an unauthorized location, or somewhere other than agreed without prior coordination, and Rentalo or the owner has to travel to recover it, a recovery fee will apply.

When does this fee apply?

The recovery fee applies if:

  • The driver leaves the vehicle at a different location without prior notice or authorization.
  • The driver reports late that they cannot return the vehicle in person and asks for someone to pick it up somewhere else.
  • The return is not properly completed on the platform and the vehicle is left out of the owner's control.

Cost

Standard recovery fee: USD $150

This fee does not include other related costs, such as:

  • Paid parking where the vehicle is parked.
  • Parking tickets or applicable penalties.
  • Towing or roadside assistance costs if the vehicle is immobilized.

These additional charges may also be billed to the driver.

Additional consequences

  • The fee will be charged directly to the driver using the payment method on file, or deducted from the security deposit, if applicable.
  • Rentalo reserves the right to suspend the driver temporarily or permanently if this behavior is repeated.
  • If the driver cannot complete the return for justified reasons (accident, medical emergency, etc.), they must tell support immediately to avoid penalties.
