Vehicle misrepresentation policy
Updated October 7, 2026
At Rentalo, our priority is to offer a safe, transparent, high-quality experience for all our users. For this reason, all information published about a vehicle must be truthful and up to date.
Describing or showing a vehicle in a misleading way — whether by leaving out damage, exaggerating features or giving inaccurate details — is considered misrepresentation and is a serious violation of our policies.
What counts as misrepresentation?
The following actions (among others) count as misrepresentation of a vehicle:
- Not disclosing or photographing pre-existing damage.
- Listing features the vehicle doesn't have, such as A/C, AWD, roof rack, sensors and others.
- Registering a vehicle with documents that are expired or will expire during a rental.
- Listing a vehicle without current insurance or with incomplete documents.
- Reinstating or relisting a vehicle that was removed for safety reasons, mechanical failures, previous claims or violations of Rentalo's policies.
- Intentionally filing a claim for pre-existing damage, in part or in full.
- Giving misleading information by any means: photos, text, calls or messages.
Consequences
Any attempt to misrepresent information about a vehicle listed on Rentalo may lead to the following penalties:
- A fine in proportion to the harm caused.
- Loss of the income from the affected rentals.
- Temporary or permanent suspension of the vehicle on the platform.
- Permanent removal of the owner's profile in repeated or serious cases.
Tips to avoid penalties
- Look over the vehicle before every trip.
- Make sure the description, photos and features match the vehicle's current condition.
- Upload recent photos that show its real condition.
- Check that the documents (registration and insurance) are up to date before every listing or handover.
