Material misrepresentation policy

Updated October 7, 2026

Material misrepresentation happens when an owner submits false or misleading information in an attempt to get coverage for a damage, smoking or cleaning claim, or reimbursement for incidental requests that would otherwise have been denied under any of the exclusions described in our Terms of Service.

Any material misrepresentation will result in the denial of your request or claim, a minimum fine of $100 and the possible removal of you or your vehicle from the Rentalo platform.

Avoid the following

Below are some examples of material misrepresentation (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Filing damage claims for pre-existing damage.
  • Altering any damage so it exceeds our wear-and-tear limits, or editing any photo so the damage looks worse than wear and tear.
  • Submitting forged, inaccurate, false or fake photos, documents, estimates, receipts or invoices.
  • Altering invoices, receipts or documents for damage claims or reimbursement requests.
  • Submitting recycled or reused invoices, documents or photos for reimbursement or incidental requests.

In addition, submitting any forged or altered document as evidence will result in a fine plus applicable fees set by Rentalo, and may result in removal from the Rentalo platform. This also applies to intentionally filing a claim for pre-existing damage (whether the damage claimed is wholly or partly pre-existing).
