Which uses of my vehicle are allowed and which are not?

Updated October 7, 2026

At Rentalo, we protect our owners and drivers with clear policies on the proper use of the vehicles listed on the platform.

Allowed uses

  • The vehicle may be used for personal use or for unpaid work purposes, such as attending meetings or carrying light materials (only vehicles authorized for those purposes).
  • The verified driver may authorize a third party to drive the vehicle under their sole responsibility.

Important note: in these cases, the driver must inform Rentalo and the owner in advance about the specific use or purpose of the rental.

Prohibited uses

Any misuse will carry consequences that may include fines starting at USD $100, voiding of the insurance coverage, and suspension or cancellation of the account.

The following are considered prohibited uses:

  • Driving outside an active booking or the approved schedule.
  • Letting third parties use the vehicle without notifying Rentalo in advance.
  • Taking part in races, challenges or speed tests.
  • Driving on unpaved roads, off-road or in risky areas.
  • Using the vehicle to carry people or goods for money (Uber, taxi, delivery, etc.).
  • Committing illegal acts, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Exceeding the vehicle's maximum passenger or load capacity.
  • Carrying hazardous or flammable materials.
  • Smoking inside the vehicle or modifying its structure without authorization.
  • Refueling with the wrong type of fuel.
  • Leaving the vehicle running or with the keys inside, unattended.
  • Driving without a valid license or with expired documents.

Insurance coverage

The SURA insurance only covers incidents during authorized use and under the conditions reported.

Any prohibited use automatically voids the insurance coverage and transfers full liability to the driver.
